East Slovak Gallery

Košice

Two years after the opening of the Slovak National Gallery, in 1951, the historically first regional gallery in the whole of Slovakia was opened — the East Slovak Gallery in Košice. It is located in the second largest city in Slovakia in the premises of the County House, which was built in 1779 in the baroque-classical style.

The aim of the gallery is to document the artistic life in the eastern Slovak region. Since its inception, it has undergone many changes, and many high-quality works of art are still being added to the collections. Currently, the collection fund of the gallery has more than 6,400 works, which will give you an overview of the work of artists from the 9th to the 20th century. The permanent exhibition Painting of the 19th century in eastern Slovakia and several temporary exhibitions are available to visitors.

On the ground floor of the gallery there is a section dedicated to the most current projects and young art. Long-term exhibition projects are held in the upstairs halls. You can also view the premises of the meeting room. The building also houses the smallest public cinema in Košice.
